Here in our Southeast coastal region, the seasons are subtle but no less magnificent. At this time of year, Mother Nature rewards us with cool and sunny days and crisp nights covered by a canopy of twinkling stars. The trees, foliage and magnificent marshlands shed their shiny coats of green and – in a showy final hurrah – delight us with a wonderful palette of muted colors from red and orange to yellow and bronze. Best of all, fall means the start of the serious holiday season. Each month provides at least one, and each is better than the next. October waits until the very end to bring us the fun of Halloween with loads of candy and scary costumes. November offers Veterans Day, when we thank those who have made our country safe and free, and Thanksgiving, the day to gather family around and loosen our belts over a fat turkey almost as stuffed as we are after the holiday meal. Come December and we have an abundance of holidays. Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa all are celebrated this month, culminating on December 31 when we lift our champagne glasses in a toast to the New Year. The common theme to all these holidays is that they revolve around family and home. Where do we bring our loved ones together to rejoice? At home. This is the place where we decorate the rooms in seasonal motifs, cook incredible meals, and invite all to come celebrate.
